St Mary, Thornham Pava

Having read about the 14th century wall paintings and The Retable, a framed altarpiece, we thought it worth a visit on what was a sunny morning but turned into an overcast and atmospheric afternoon..

Norman flintwork with traces of the Saxon church.....

Dating from around 1335 is The Retable, and painted for the Dominican Priory at Thetford originally.... not complete however, the rest of it can be seen in the Musee de Cluny in Pareeee ....

Wall paintings of the complete story of St Edmund (who I think should be England's Patron Saint).....

St Edmund fleeing on horseback from the Danes....

The monument to Sir Basil Spence OM (1907-1976) and to his wife....
