Wonderful Travels in Somerset last week ....

Another stay at lovely Little Brook Cottage in Coxley....

Velvet Bottom at Charterhouse .... this curious name is a very good description of the lush, soft grass carpeting the gentle slopes and meadows of the valley which was mined for lead as far back as the Roman times, and now it is a fabulous nature reserve .... along this route you can even walk to Cheddar Gorge...

... a bit of sheep spotting is the order of the day ...

Beacon Batch, the highest point of the Mendips in the wake of Storm Barney.....

St Nicholas church, West Pennard....

There is an earthworks near here, but it was a bit soggy under foot to go in search, so it is on my list for our next visit ....

A brief stop at Cheddar Gorge....

Pen Hill, the second highest point on the Mendip hills.
On a clear day you can see across to the Blackdown Hills, the Quantocks and the Brendon Hills, but not on these two occasions!....

The above photo I took reminds me of one of my Dad's that he snapped in the Himalayas during the Second World War..... for more of his photos please turn to page ..... http://cindyinsuffolk.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/im-gradually-uploading-my-fathers.html

On reflection I didn't really need to pack the Factor 30 and the After Sun Lotion!

And on to my beloved Glastonbury....
St John's church and one of the Holy Thorns ....

Abbot Whiting's Cope (although it was probably made during the Abbacy of his predecessor according to the church booklet).....

St Benedict's Church, Glastonbury....

Wedmore....
