Little Easton, Essex....

Little Easton was once a hamlet set in the northern confines of the Forest of Essex which stretched from the north east of London almost to Thaxted.  After the Norman conquest a fortified dwelling was built close by the little Saxon church, which in its turn was rebuilt in the Norman style with a tower.  From 'The Five Parishes' a brief history of Broxted with Chickney, Tilty, Great Easton and Little Easton by Claire Squibb.
