Newport, Essex...

A visit to this beautiful little village where my Archer, Gapes and Simmons families lived their lives from the late 1600's....

These could be the cottages (near the church) where my Jane Archer lived in the 1860's....

14th century glass that was brought to the Newport church at the end of the 19th century....

The altar panels are 16th century and either German or Flemish....

The Newport Chest is a portable altar of the late 13th century.....

... and contains some of the earliest known oil paintings on wood....

The font that baptised my ancestors is 13th century (bowl) and 15th century oak cover ....

An heart-warming feeling to stand where they once stood....

A descendant of the Archer/Simmons/Gapes families of Newport...

And another, maybe ...

The old vicarage....

Monk's Barn.....

The old priory....

The viaduct........

... and possibly one of these lovely cottages is where Jane Archer died in 1902...

Dated 1692.....

One of the friendly residents...

The old priory seen through the viaduct...

The Toll House....

The year my Richard Simmons was baptised in Newport....
