Wivenhoe this afternoon, what a beautiful place, a little jewel on the river Colne ...
I was unable to find the headstone for my Edward and Sophia Wade (my 3xgreat grandparents) in the old cemetery, however, this is the father of my Joseph Wade's wife!
Alma Street .....
The Black Boy Inn ... changed recently to The Black Buoy Inn for reasons of political correctness....
so I was told.....
The Quay ....... where my Salmons and Wades (and Saintys!) headed for the high seas .....
T'would be nice tee think there be rum in that thar barrel.....
The pub that mum and dad came to look at in the early 1970's with a view to running it, but they decided upon The Black Boy in Bocking, Braintree instead.... we didn't at that time know that mum's grandfather was born in Wivenhoe! What goes round, comes round, so it seems.
Toward Anchor Hill.....
Mum pretending she's on a cruise .....
Six sea legs ......
The flag could be one of those 'fascintors' that ladies wear at Ascot....
Wivenhoe is lovely .... move over San Tropez!

I like the comments, gives a bit of life to the photos. Is it that your ancestors , Salmons and Wades got their surnames because they were seafaring folk?
