St Mary's Church, Houghton-on-the-Hill this afternoon....

Bob Davey MBE has done a fabulous job in saving this lovely old church, and he was so kind in giving us a guided tour and lots of interesting information.  Our visit was a fascinating step back in time.  St Mary's stands on a hill overlooking the river Wissey and is the last remaining building of the lost village of Houghton-on-the-Hill.  Rediscovered as an ivy clad ruin in 1992, renovation work resulted in the uncovering of wall paintings dating from the time of the Norman Conquest or earlier.  The manor of Houghton-on-the-Hill was owned by a Knight who campaigned with The Black Prince in Spain!

What a remarkable man! And imagine to be guided by the man that knows every stone in the church! It makes your heart warm to know there are such stars in the world. Shining next to the Cindy star that tells his and the church story in gorgeous photos and informative text. Just like old BobĀ“s work, your blog is very important for telling and saving history!
