The Abbey of St Benet at Holme, Norfolk

Lying deep in the Broadland of East Norfolk, this was the only Norfolk monastery founded in the Anglo Saxon period which continued in use throughout the middle ages - the only comparable ones in East Anglia were the ones in Bury St Edmunds and Ely.  However, St Benets, unlike Bury St Edmunds and Ely was largely abandoned after the closure of the monastery in the 1530's because of its inaccessible location. The buildings have been demolished apart from the gatehouse and the 18th century wind pump built onto it.

The marshy Broadland....

.. ever get the feeling you're being followed?

Very interesting old ruins. love the crane. I have been watching several wildlife shows of the BBC channel we are getting now with stalite TV. Watching one now showing hedge hogs. There were 3 on places in the American West that were done better than a lot I have seen. And with a British person telling about it. I could tell by the accent. Wish they would do one on the places you take photos of .
