Therfield Heath, near Royston, Hertfordshire.....

The round barrows, 'The Five Hills', on the hill top, are Bronze Age and thus date from 2,250 BC to 1,200 BC.....

There is a continual record of use from Neolithic times onward.  The first evidence of man on this site is provided by the Neolithic Long Barrow which is 5,000 years old.  So much history under our feet!

Lovely views on the way up the hill...

beautiful photos of all that open space. I really miss the desert openness here. I feel as if we are sitting in a hole. It's called a holler. Lee grew up that way and doesn't mind. But it gets to me sometimes. Enjoy those rolling hills.

I agree with Sage that it feels you see the end of the world from English hills like this one. If I stand on a hill too in Sweden we can wave to each other! HOOHOO! GORGEOUS PHOTOS!!
