Berkhamsted Castle....

There I was, on yet another gorgeous day of 36 degrees C, climbing the steps of the castle keep, and very dehydrated and red-faced I was too!  What a treat it was to visit.... a fabulous place and in wonderful scenery.

This was The Black Prince's favourite residence, and as he is my ancestor, then all this should be mine!!  Well, in my dreams anyway!  And is where William the Conqueror was offered the crown.

In this heatwave, no longer a 'green and pleasant land' but a brown and dusty one.

The kitchens...

The Palace....

Not another soul in sight, despite it being school holidays!  Mad Dogs and Englishwomen and all that....

Looking over Berkhamsted and Northchurch…..

and towards the area of Ivinghoe Beacon....

so weird that no one else was there. Was it spooky being their by your self? Did you see any ghosts? or maybe it was a better visit with out having to share it. Even here if it isn't pouring rain there is usally some one every where you go.

Dear Black Princess,
You better call the APPG, The All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment (you certainly excel in fancy names in England..), before you claim the Berkhamsted Castle. It seems awfully drafty.. but still amazing so much remains from the days of glory.
