Wimbish and Radwinter, Essex .....
Another wonderful trip into Essex, this time on the trail of my ancestors in Wimbish and Radwinter - my Jane Gray was born in Wimbish in 1689, and she married James Taylor there (he was a stone mason from Horseheath). My Isaac Thompson was born there in 1764, my John Gurson married Mary Brand there in 1750, not to mention those troublesome Barkers who moved on to Saffron Walden. In Radwinter my Woodleys, Purcas, Taylors and Westleys called this lovely village home. This is such a beautiful part of England, which makes me proud to say I'm an Essex girl.
Wimbish...... All Saints is in a lovely setting of trees......
A 12th century doorway....
12th century window....
The bell tower was removed in 1883, it seems a shame that one of the bells has been relegated to the back of the church ....
The road to Radwinter.....
In Radwinter .......
Pixie is champing at the bit to check out the church....
14th century wooden arches hold up a an overhanging black and white room, and a medieval handle to the new inner door......
